Interesting apicultural flora.

Once you decide to have your first beehives, it is necessary to adquire knowledge about Apiculture (Beekeeping). You can do it through course given by “Casa de La Miel” or through apicultural associations such as ABECAN or those which include APITEN.
I’m my humble opinion, learning about the flora for Apiculture is one of the most important things. In Tenerife, as is a great diversity of flowers you can only find here and it is important because this allow us to get from our beehives different types of honey with different characteristics and qualities.
In my opinion, we can compete in quality and variety with the honeys from mainland Spain because we have got a big variety of single flower honeys.
Our islands are like small continents with a lot of microclimates and the flowers   don’t all bloom at the same time.
In the picture at the beginning of this post, there is a book that will help you. It’s difficult to get a hold of it. It took me a long time to find it and I got it in a book fair in La Laguna. I was lucky. You may find it in the bookshops belonging to “El Cabildo” (Tenerife Island council) or in “Casa de La Miel”. IT is a very important book not only for an apiculturalist but also recommended for those who have a great interest in the study of honey.
